“Nothing on earth and nothing in the empty heavens is to be saved by defending it. (…) Nothing can be saved unchanged, nothing that has not passed through the portal of its death. If rescue is the inmost impulse of any man´s spirit, there is no hope but unreserved surrender: of that which is to be rescued as well as of the hopeful spirit”

Nada en la tierra ni en el vacío cielo debe salvarse defendiéndolo (…) Nada puede ser salvado sin cambio, nada que no haya pasado por el portal de su propia muerte. Si el rescate es el impulso más profundo del espíritu de los hombres, entonces no hay esperanza sino una rendición sin reservas: tanto de lo que se va a rescatar como del esperanzado espíritu.
